“Everything went very smoothly, as our builder was on site consistently and although we were not living in the house, he was always available for us.”

Degnan Design Build was the architect and builder of our renovation project. From a tired, 4 bedroom, 3 bath Tudor, we now have a 6 bedroom, 5 1/2 bath seashore home. The project took 11 months from bare studs to completion. Everything went very smoothly, as our builder was on site consistently and although we were not living in the house, he was always available for us. All of the subs were most professional and provided only the highest quality work. The result of this renovation far exceeded our expectations.

“Tom and his staff are very professional and competent. He provided many options for energy efficiency which were unfamiliar to us and we implemented most of them.”

Degnan Design Group worked with me on a complete remodel of my home and we are very pleased with the outcome. Tom and his staff are very professional and competent. He provided many options for energy efficiency which were unfamiliar to us and we implemented most of them. Excellent team!

“Knowing that our builder would be a constant presence in our lives for a year or more, we chose someone trustworthy who we liked...it was a great decision. Without question we would work with Degnan Design again in the future if the opportunity arises.”

My wife and I have renovated 3 different homes in the past 20 years.  We used Degnan Design for our last two renovations. In initial meetings Tom and his team asked thoughtful questions, listening to our needs and goals. They came back with several viable options for the projects that we discussed. Some of those options were things we had not considered (such as a high efficiency HVAC system, spraying insulation into the eaves, etc., that would save us long term in energy costs).

When we entered the construction phase they were available for calls and meetings during each step of the process. Updates on progress with photos were provided when we couldn’t be on site. Each group of subcontractors, demolition, framers, etc. were skilled tradesman and problem solvers, who worked through Degnan Design Build to meet our needs whether they were change orders, or other items.

DDB designed and built houses for us that not only gave us the space we needed, but homes that are visually appealing, with great sight lines. Since we like to entertain, flow from room to room is  important. I especially enjoy sitting at the dining room table and looking through the kitchen to the breezeway (which contains facets of the original structure, like cedar shake siding.

I can think of one or two decisions during the construction process such as the floating staircase and a skylight that Tom encouraged us toward, even though we were uncertain about. We now see these as important components that make our home uniquely ours, often get recognized by guests and are thoroughly enjoyed by us.

When renovating a home the process is simultaneously exciting, nerve wracking and exhausting. I have found that it usually takes longer and costs more than you’d like...HOWEVER, it is well worth it.  In my experience, quality, service and honesty are the most important criteria in choosing a design/build firm.

Knowing that our builder would be a constant presence in our lives for a year or more, we chose someone trustworthy who we liked...it turned out to be a great decision. Without question we would work with Degnan Design again in the future if the opportunity arises.
